ENERGY CERTIFICATES: ....Need to Know More?
Energy certificates otherwise know as EPC’s are now a legal requirement set by the energy performance of buildings directive.
An EPC will be required for any property put up for rent from the 1st October 2008 and are valid for upto 10 years.
Compliance is mandatory and any property without an EPC cannot be shown to potential tenants so its best to get these done as soon as possible, especially if you know a property is going to become available in the near future.
Existing tenancies are not effected but if and when a property comes up for rent again it will need doing before it is re-let.
